PML-N holds important meeting on political situation

PML-N Central Organising Committee was meeting here on Tuesday to decide whether to back a no-confidence vote against the PM.The chance of a no-confidence vote against PM Yousuf Raza Gilani arose Sunday after the MQM joined the opposition and deprived the federal government of a parliamentary majority.Gilani could rule with a minority coalition but would have to step down if he loses a no-confidence vote in parliament.

A no-confidence motion requires a majority to pass.Today’s meeting was called by PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif  to talk about the country’s political scenario.Shahbaz Sharif, Hamza Shahbaz Sharif and the provincial party heads were also attending the special session. The meeting of 58 members of the Central Organising Committee is expected devise the party’s strategy in the country’s existing political situation.
Nawaz Sharif had before mentioned that he would “not become a part of establishment politics”. However, PML-N leaders and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan had said that they would not come to the government’s rescue.

Suspect cricketers receive fees from PCB

PCB  has made part payments of the outstanding fees to six suspect cricketers including Salman Butt, Mohammad Aamir, Mohammad Asif, Kamran Akmal, Shoaib Malik and Danish Kaneria.
Well-placed sources said that both Salman and Aamir received payments of Rs2.44 million each from their total outstanding fees of the last couple of series which come to around 8 million Pakistani rupees.
The PCB has also deducted Rs2.5m from their fees to make a payment to English lawyer Elizabeth Robertson who was hired to defend the tainted trio soon after the Scotland Yard investigators raided the team hotel in England following the spot-fixing scam.
The PCB is, however, yet to pay around Rs3 million each to Aamir, Asif and Salman, the sources said, which may not be cleared until the ICC’s decision on the spot-fixing case is completed.
All the three players are going to Doha, Qatar on Tuesday to defend their position before an ICC anti-corruption tribunal which will be holding a hearing into the spot-fixing case from Jan 6 to 11.
Meanwhile, Kamran and Shoaib, who are presently in the process of defending themselves before the PCB’s integrity committee over some fixing allegations, also received a main share of their outstanding dues which, however, does not include payments for the last series against England.

PML-N hints at lawful action against Muttahida

The PML-N is considering lawful action against the MQM parliamentarians involved in “bad-mouthing” against the PML-N leadership.
Ahsan Iqbal, the information secretary of the PML-N, was critical of those political parties which, in spite of being part of the coalition government, were criticising it day in and day out.
The PML-N and the Muttahida indulged in a mud-slinging bout on Wednesday, slandering each other’s main leadership.
“If they are truly honest, they should leave the government and do politics based on principles,” Mr Iqbal said at a press conference on Saturday.
He blamed the government and its coalition partners for the worsening law and order situation. Mr Iqbal also slammed the government for the huge raise in oil rates, calling for a change of the decision.
He called for removal of ‘corrupt’ officials from financial institutions, saying that new appointments should be made through a parliamentary committee. He said the economy was on its knees because of corruption.

Australia pick two new caps for final Ashes Test

Michael Beer and Usman Khawaja will make their Test debuts for Australia in the last Ashes match against England in Sydney, beginning on Monday. Stand-in captain Michael Clarke verified on Sunday morning that the slow left armer and number three batsman will take their places in the line-up, with Doug Bollinger the man to miss out.

Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor has discovered the writer in herself.After having written an introduction to her dietician Rujuta Diwekar’s before book that was a big success; Kareena has continued to keep in touch with her writing skills. Says the actress, “I genuinely enjoy writing. What’s more, I feel particularly thrilled when I ask Saif to go through my draft and he suggests just a couple of small changes.
Then I know that I am on the right track.” Kareena is also going to write for Rujuta’s 2nd book based on the weight loss tamasha.Says Kareena Kapoor, “When I return from my New Year vacation in Switzerland I will release this book for Rujuta.”
