Nokia and Samsung control Indian mobile market in 2010

Nokia and Samsung branded mobile phones cornered nearly 70% of the mobile market share during the January till November period of 2010. Information released by market analysis organization – GfK Nielsen – indicates that Finland-based Nokia retained the leading position in Indian mobile phone buyers’ thoughts in the January-November 2010 time period.
It maintained a market share of 49.2 percent of income. On the other hand, Korean electronics main Samsung gained a good 20.5 % share. LG’s market share stood at 5.3 percent while Micromax’s was at 5 percent (in terms of revenues) Nokia’s latest offering N8 – a touch screen phone -has given the brand a much-needs boost. Samsung too registered powerful income during 2010 in the Indian mobile phones market with requirement increasing for its Galaxy and Wave series of mobile phones, apart from its dual-SIM range.
In the interim, another research firm – IDC – stated that Nokia had a 31.5 percent share of the mobile handset market in India in terms of the number of units shipped (for sales) during the July-September 2010 period
